TRAVEL: As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc., and will be assigned to the Respiratory Diseases Branch (RDB) within the Division of Bacterial Diseases (DBD) of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA to provide support for epidemiologic and public health activities.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Epidemiologist will provide support for the use of multiple state-of-the-art data systems to track episodes of bacterial disease, evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions to reduce morbidity and mortality from respiratory infections, CDC's Emergency Operation Center (EOC), and outbreak response activities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use multiple state-of-the-art data systems to track episodes of bacterial disease.
  • Receive electronic data transmitted from state and local partners to CDC using data systems and pre-determined timeliness.
  • Track Legionella case reports, including assessment of disease clusters.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions to reduce morbidity and mortality from respiratory infections.
  • Assist with developing and pilot testing instruments (e.g., questionnaires, chart abstract forms) and enrollment procedures to be used in the assessments.
  • Work with CDC to develop appropriate data systems that allow for secure collection and electronic transmission of data.
  • Coordinate monitoring of enrollment, data analysis, interpretation of results, and preparation of reports for presentation and publication.
  • Work with state and local partners and CDC to review, track, and monitor progress towards the project goals and to address any risks, delays, or performance problems.
  • Work with state and local partners and CDC to investigate disease outbreaks.
  • Provide support to CDC's Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and to outbreak response activities.
  • Provide support to the CDC EOC for agency response activities when the EOC is activated.
  • Provide field support for CDC outbreak activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in epidemiology from an accredited college.

Required:

  • A minimum of 2 years coordinating and managing surveillance across multiple sites.
  • Experience in providing epidemiologic support.
  • Experience providing field support for CDC outbreak activities.
  • Organizational skills demonstrating high attention to detail and the ability to organize multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required for teamwork and interaction with people across CDC and with external partners.
  • Understanding of design and implementation of research and epidemiologic studies.
  • Knowledge of SAS, SPSS, Stata, or other statistical software.
  • Proficient in writing comprehensive statistical and analytical reports.
  • Excellent written and oral communications.

Desirable:

  • Experience in conducting research on epidemiology of respiratory diseases.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

REQUIREMENT:

  • Must be United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.
