ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Office of Advanced Molecular Detection (OAMD), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide scientific and technical support for the OAMD.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Health Scientist will provide scientific and technical support to the Office of Advance Molecular Detection in support of the mission and goals of OAMD.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support scientific discussions on the SPHERES workspace, email exchanges, and provide ongoing technical support and triage of scientific issues that are raised.
  • Assist in organizing, scheduling and producing materials and data for the biweekly SPHERES calls (250+ attendees).
  • Collaborate with other CDC OAMD activities, and elements of the pandemic response, as required.
  • Develop scientific summaries and reports of SPHERES project and consortium work for a variety of needs and audiences (internal/external stakeholders and leadership, the public).
  • Provide evaluation technical assistance for OAMD's genomic sequencing contracts, IAAs and CoAgs, and projects. This may include developing performance measures, logic models, questionnaires, and guidance documents. Coordinate various activities to provide contracts and grants management tasks. Maintain records of work accomplishments and information related to OAMD contracts, interagency agreements, and cooperative agreements.
  • Confer with and represent the assigned program and division in meetings with offices within CDC, grantees, and external partners to foster collaborative working relationships to the benefit of the program.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews and systematic literature reviews, including but not limited to developing search strategies to be used in the relevant databases, searching the relevant databases, and retrieving the relevant literature, and maintaining reference libraries and bibliographies for each project.
  • As part of Monthly Report, report number of hours by labor category, summary of activities performed, any challenges, and actions to mitigate the challenges.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in allied health, health science, or life sciences.
  • At least 3 years work experience in pathogen genomics.
  • At least 2 years technical project management experience.

Required:

  • Working level proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Experience working with the academic, CDC, federal or related public health entities.
  • Demonstrated experience with molecular and genomic laboratory techniques.
  • Experience providing evaluation and analysis of a variety of contracts and agreements between health response institutions, including the development of guidelines and performance measures of said agreements.
  • Experience with the development and deployment of publications for the dissemination of scientific data to populations of various scientific knowledge and the public.
  • Experience with the synthesis of scientific literature and other scientific material for both scientific and non-scientific audiences.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a similar role.
  • Desired specific work or training experience related to genetics, genomics and molecular biology techniques.
  • Previous experience utilizing a variety of scientific literature sources and databases to provide summary analysis of scientific findings.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
