JOB TITLE: Epidemiologist

TRAVEL: As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Mycotic Diseases Branch (MDB), Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA, to provide epidemiological and laboratory capacity support.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Epidemiologist will participate as a team member with MDB staff to provide written materials, determining that deliverables are being provided on time and within budget, and organizing periodic conference calls with Contractor to assess progress.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Perform diagnostic immunological test validation, manage electronic databases of specimen collection, and update results in appropriate systems; where applicable follow CLIA and Technology Transfer Agreement requirements
  • Work with epidemiology and laboratory capacity building with a focus on fungal disease identification and susceptibility testing with multiple pathogens in Latin American countries (i.e. Histoplasma, Cryptococcus, and Candida auris) and other international partners.
  • Provide technical knowledge on emerging fungal disease identification, response, and control in international countries, including Latin American countries (i.e. Candida auris, Sporothrix).
  • Designing sessions or workshops on fungal diseases at domestic and international conferences, approximately 4 – 5 per year, including research of fungal-related papers based on the fungal pathogen cases in Latin American countries.
  • Developing communication debriefs to update the Mycotic Diseases Branch, Center for Global Health, and other interested CDC parties on development and activities of the fungal work in Latin America, approximately 6-10/year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Master of Public Health (MPH), or Master's degree with a concentration in public health.

Required:

  • 1-3 years of work experience in public health.
  • Communications skills demonstrating clear, rapid, and accurate dissemination of information about fungal disease topics.
  • Familiarity with laboratory practices including standard molecular and microbiology techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required for teamwork and interaction with both CDC and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, the ability to comfortably multitask, and the ability to interpret and summarize scientific data.
  • Quantitative skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience preparing written documents and giving oral presentations.

Desirable:

  • Strong background in data management and program evaluation.
  • Global health and health communication experience is desirable.
  • Experience development and implementing training materials for a broad scientific audience.
  • Background in data analysis and experience using data analysis software including SAS, SPSS, etc.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English
