JOB TITLE:  Health Communications Specialist

POSITION NUMBER:  2006-68026-HCS-T2

POSITION LOCATION:  Atlanta, GA, USA

ANTICIPATED START DATE:  Two weeks after candidate identification

TRAVEL:  As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position

ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc., and will be assigned to the  Arthritis, Epilepsy, and Well Being (AEWB) Branch, Division of Population Health (DPH), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) located at 4770 Buford Highway NE, Atlanta, GA, to provide health communications, web content and design management services to AEWB.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Health Communications Specialist will provide health communications, web content and design management services to AEWB.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage a diverse portfolio of web design and content management needs.
  • Work independently to conduct web reviews, develop, clear and publish web updates in accordance with Agency requirements.
  • Translate highly technical health information to web content appropriate for the general public, including the ability to produce new and edit existing or supplied health-related web content that incorporates plain language principles and meets the Agency's plain language requirements.
  • Work independently to complete revisions or updates to health communication products and campaign materials (e.g. in Adobe, InDesign, etc.).
  • Proactively develop and design clearance-ready content and developmental web pages, and recommend and implement changes, based on subject matter expert (SME) input, Branch priorities and web heuristics or usability data.
  • Work independently to identify and propose solutions to web problems that respond to Agency requirements and Program needs.
  • Address a variety of health topics and program-specific needs.
  • Meet deadlines.
  • Merge input from SMEs to make updates to web content.
  • Secure document eClearance, to include performance, review and/or correction of 508 compliance remediation to PDFs intended for the Branch's websites.
  • Work with Branch SMEs and Leadership to recommend, refine message, create new messages, optimize web layout, content and design features that increase traffic to website and content visibility.
  • Make information easily discoverable for the public.
  • Ensure accuracy of web content.
  • Upon request, participate in scheduled weekly team or monthly branch meetings and provide updates on ongoing web projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in Public Health with at least 1 year of experience in the public health communications and web design field.

Required:

  • Experience developing and translating technical health/science content and communications. Ability to write content in plain language.
  • Experience creating web content.
  • Knowledge and experience in web content management with design, usability assessment and evaluation skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, analyze, interpret and report on web search optimization, heuristic and use data.
  • Graphic design skills and experience suitable for addressing web content layout and design needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Prior experience working in a similar capacity at CDC or in a public health setting preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to efficiently organize multiple priorities.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English
